Behind the Scenes Look at "Take a Kid Ice Fishing"
The program was taken over by kids! Rory and Nate were the co-hosts of the first portion of the show and I was extremely proud of both of these guys for their efforts. The program was done over the course of three trips actually. The weather was cold, windy and the fishing was VERY slow. We traveled to a little metro lake near downtown Minneapolis to catch sunfish. The goal of the show was not to show them caching monster fish, but having a good time and that they did.
It was at the last minute of the day, one that Rory boldly stated that he loved to clean fish and Nate stated he was a great cook, so why don’t we eat some fish? Well, we didn’t have the gear with us on that day, so we re-scheduled the filming for another day on the ice, but this time with the equipment needed to cook the fish on the ice. Some states do not allow you to each freshly caught fish on the ice, but Minnesota recently changed its law permitting it and so the Rory and Nate cooking show was ready for air.
The day was full of laughs, jokes and great fishing, but more importantly, you could really see these guys were best friends. I think the best part of the entire show was as Rory and Nate were giving a promo to the IFT site, they got tangled up in the words and I almost dropped the camera laughing.
The Bectold family hosted the second half of the show and they did an outstanding job of catching fish, but more importantly, it was a great chance to show the world how much fun a family can have on the ice. Cole was a ball of fire and Brook was smiles and giggles all afternoon.
The inside scoop on this show was that Corey was really sick with a stomach flu the entire day and into the evening. I was amazed what a trooper he was putting on a smile while inside he was as sick as a dog. For sure it is going to Hollywood! Great effort and I urge everyone to watch the night fishing segment as well. Winter in the North-Country does not have many daylight hours, so showing the kids after dark having fun and catching fish was a real plus for IFT. I hope everyone enjoyed watching the shows as much as all of us enjoyed making it. Ice Fishing IS a family affair!
