DNR Ice Safety

While 90% of each IFT show is having fun fishing on the ice, ice fishing safety is never far from our minds. Our friends from the Minnesota DNR did a great bit on ice safety a few years back and we make it available to all our IFT viewers in hopes they will not only be safer on the ice, but maybe even save someone else's life by knowing what to do if they see someone else fall through the ice.

Flotation suits are also offered by http://www.idigear.com/
and mustang survival.

The Ice Armband Grippers by Mag's manufacturing are also good for safety, they are available at red rock store.

Ice thickness should first be checked with a spud bar which has a chisel on a iron bar. Then and only then should you attempt to gauge the thickness of the ice by drilling a hole with your auger.
Doing this will help insure that you and your ice auger do not break through the ice at the same instant.
The state of Minnesota etc should have a law which requires all ice fishermen etc to have in their possession a spud bar any time they venture on to the ice!.
