Predators

Northern pike ice fishing with patience and safe handling.

Pike are visual ambush fish. Under the ice, they often use weeds, points, inside turns, and travel edges to intercept prey.

Pick Ambush Water

Focus on green weeds, mouths of bays, saddle areas, and edges near deeper water. Pike may cruise shallow even in bright winter conditions if food is present.

Set Tip-Ups With Intention

Do not scatter lines randomly. Place each bait to test a different edge, depth, or travel lane while staying within legal limits.

Handle Pike Cleanly

Use proper jaw tools, long pliers, a wet measuring surface, and quick photos. Large fish deserve fast release when local rules and your goals allow it.
