Safety

Ice fishing safety checklist.

Use this checklist before every trip. It is not a substitute for local judgement, but it helps prevent predictable mistakes.

Before You Leave

Check local reports, recent weather, wind, snow, current, access points, and whether other anglers are using the area safely.

Carry The Basics

Ice picks, spud bar, rope, traction, flotation layers, dry gloves, headlamp, charged phone, first-aid kit, and a way to navigate back in low visibility.

On The Ice

Test as you go, spread out, avoid unknown pressure ridges, watch shoreline ice, and leave before conditions force a rushed exit.
